Traveling Exhibition Prospectus

We built a prospectus template to showcase the individuality and diversity of each exhibition that is toured by International Arts & Artists (IA&A). Using the organization's branding as the template's framework, we created a design that is as dynamic as the exhibitions featured.

IA&A’s Traveling Exhibition Service develops and circulates visual arts exhibitions designed for both large and small museums and other cultural institutions in the US and abroad. To date, they have developed over 110 unique exhibitions.

Reflecting on the ring sanctuary of Pömmelte, often referred to as the German ‘Stonehenge,’ the exhibiting artists investigate deep time and explore the idea of what is hidden below ground, as well as what will be rediscovered, unearthed, and revealed.

This exhibition aims to reveal a deeper understanding of people’s lives throughout history and to allow contemporary artists to express their interpretations on topics of the cosmos, nature, current culture, and world heritage. Using the Nebra Sky Disc as a reference point—an artifact found near Pömmelte depicting a Bronze Age creator’s vision of the cosmos—the selected artworks are no larger than the Disc’s diameter of 12.6 inches. These archeological discoveries are evocative touchstones that invite contemplation of enduring questions about our history and place in the world. Can reflecting upon the past help broaden our understanding of ourselves and our relationship to one another? Can rethinking how we study and understand the past give us insight into navigating the future? These are some of the questions examined by 15 Washington, DC, artists along with 8 German artists, bringing global perspectives to shared human experiences.

Man Ray, African Art, and the Modernist Lens

book-design-Man Ray, African Art, and the Modernist Lens

IA&A Design Studio created this 183-page book for the exhibition, Man Ray, African Art, and the Modernist Lens. Meticulously researched and compellingly presented, the book and the exhibition it accompanies raise thought-provoking questions about how photographs of African objects have shaped our ideas about African art and, in turn, how these images contributed to multiple Modernist viewpoints.

Exhibition Photos

The groundbreaking exhibition featured the photographs of American artist Man Ray (1890-1976), whose work translated the vogue for African art into a modernist aesthetic and disseminated this idea to a popular audience. This exhibition explored a little-examined chapter in the development of modernist artistic practice; namely, the significant role photography played in the process by which African objects—formerly considered ethnographic curiosities—came to be perceived as the stuff of modern art in the first decades of the 20th century.

Along with the exhibition and catalogue we created exhibition wall graphics, invitations and educational packets.

Intent to Deceive – Fakes and Forgeries in the Art World

Art fraud is one of the most serious challenges facing museums today in their stewardship of our cultural heritage. It is, therefore, critical to go “behind the scenes” and examine how these daring forgers used artful methodology to fool—at least initially—the experts, art dealers, and institutions who validated and collected their work. Han van Meegeren, Elmyr de Hory, Eric Hebborn, John Myatt and Mark Landis were all unable to make a career based on acceptance of their own artistic style. They found fakery, the exact duplication of an original work of art, and forgery, the creation and selling of a work of art which is falsely credited to another, to be their most accessible avenue to recognition and commercial success.

IA&A Design Studio created an interactive, online catalogue for the exhibition. Given the ongoing nature of forgery, an evolving online catalogue best illustrates the continuing deceit and beguilement entangled within the art world
