Voices: Contemporary Ceramic Art from Sweden

Summary | Specifications | Tour Schedule | Images | Installations | Press | Checklist (PDF)

The ten artists included in Voices are natural representatives and leading exponents of the dynamism and originality of contemporary ceramic art in Sweden. Viewed together they enable us to discern uniqueness in the contemporary development of Swedish ceramics. The artists have been selected from different generations, work in varying styles and are free in their relationship to traditional ceramic art to seek new directions and emphasize freedom of expression.

Despite the use of a wide array of media such as clay, glass, rope, glaze, and metal, no longer is it the material that is of utmost importance, but instead the point of view of the ceramic artist. The artists contributing their "voices" to the exhibition work sculpturally and conceptually, addressing existential issues with humor or as abstractions.
