The Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, one of the finest tapestry collections in the world, is making available a suite of eight Renaissance tapestries for the first time outside of Austria. The tapestries, which date from 1560-1570, depict scenes from the story of Romulus and Remus, the ancient founders of Rome.

The legend is told that Romulus, after slaying brother Remus for the right to rule Rome, created the Roman Legend and the Roman Senate, and added citizens to his new city by abducting the women of the neighboring Sabine tribes. Each exquisite tapestry, intricately crafted from wool, silk, and silver and gold thread, measures from 11- to 12-feet high and from 12- to 18-feet long. These magnificent works have been restored especially for the tour. This is an extremely rare and special opportunity to display a complete set of High Renaissance Tapestries from the Habsburg Collection of Vienna, Austria.
