David Partridge was born in Akron, Ohio, in 1919. He became a naturalized Canadian in 1944, and is considered one of Canada's leading artists. He studied art at Hart House, University of Toronto, Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, the Art Students' League in New York, the Slade School of Fine Art in London, and Atelier 17 in Paris. His sculptural reliefs have been exhibited widely in the United States, Canada, and England. In addition, he has received several large-scale public commissions. Partridge's abstract compositions, often set against a background of polished aluminum, feature shimmering waves of thousands of common nails.
