Stan Dann was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1931. Dann studied at the Faulkner Smith Academy of Fine Art, Vancouver, and received a B.A. from the Art Center College, Los Angeles, in 1957; he as worked primarily in California. He has completed several public commissions in the United States, and his work is included in many corporate collections. The artist creates constructions composed of carved an painted wood elements in high relief against a flat background. He combines geometric and organic shapes based on ordinary objects such as tools and appliances in his dynamic compositions, which are further energized by the expressionistic brushwork he applies to the surfaces.
