Requirements for Employers

If you already found an international candidate whom you wish to host at your organization, please contact IA&A for appropriate visa asistance.

The U.S. Department of State requires employers to provide the following information in order to host an international trainee or intern:

  • Employer identification number (also know as Federal Tax ID)
  • Verification of Workman's Compensation Insurance policy
  • Completed DS-7002 form

NOTE: Please make sure that you print DS-7002 after you had completed it, since the file format doesn’t allow you to save the filled information. After you printed it out, the document can be signed by the employer and the Trainee/ Intern.

Hours: The State Department requires that placements be a minimum of 32 hours per week.

*Please note that the U.S. Department of State has also required J1 visa sponsors to visit employer sites in which successful candidates have not yet been placed, or in sites where the organization makes less than $3 million in annual revenue, or has fewer than 25 employees.

International Arts & Artists acts as an invaluable liaison for organizations in the U.S. and international applicants from all over the world. IA&A sponsors J1 trainee and intern visas for international applicants and helps host organizations find qualified trainees and interns from abroad.

If you are a museum, graphic design firm, ballet theatre, arts management firm, symphony orchestra, interior design firm, industrial design studio, arts organization, cultural organization, film studio, or any other cultural organization, you are a potential host for a IA&A international trainee or intern. IA&A will also consider non-arts-related hosts seeking a trainee or an intern in the fields of media and communication, and management and commerce.

At no charge to the employers, we select and propose high-caliber, dedicated international trainees and interns to train in your institution, having carefully reviewed applicants to ensure a good match. You can review our screening process on this site in the “Application Process” section.

The U.S. Department of State distinguishes an international trainee from an international intern. International trainees have received higher education degrees or have at least five years experience in a particular arts and culture field. International interns are currently enrolled in and pursuing post- secondary degrees or have recently graduated.

For your international candidate, IA&A will:

  • Help you arrange interviews with qualified candidates from abroad
  • Transmit placement offer letters
  • Help you complete the necessary Training/Internship Placement Plan (DS-7002 form)
  • Prepare Training Agreements that are signed by the applicant and the host

IA&A also manages the applicant's visa-related requirements as follows:

  • Issue the DS-2019 form for the applicant
  • Ensure enrollment in health insurance program
  • Assist with the visa application preparation
  • Provide pre-arrival Trainee/Intern Manual to prepare for the trip to the United States.
