Internships at International Arts and Artists

Get your college or graduate experience in the arts at a premier Washington local and international arts organization. We have more and more exhibitions opening around the United States, an international arts training program, a vibrant Design Studio, an international staff and IA&A’s Hillyer Art Space, which opened in April 2006. We take arts education seriously here and have years of experience providing quality placements. Placements are unpaid unless a stipend is mentioned. School credit available. Offices three minutes from the Dupont Circle Metro.

Design Studio Intern

Part-Time, 24 to 32 hours per week

IA&A Design Studio offers print, multimedia and website design services to non-profits in the Washington, DC area. In addition to these services, the Design Studio works side by side with IA&A's Traveling Exhibitions Department, Hillyer Art Space, Cultural Exchange Programs and the Membership program to provide professional grade graphic design materials. The Design Studio intern will assist the Design Studio Director in all realms.

Work includes:

  • Publication design
  • Brochure design
  • Website design and management
  • Exhibition labels and panels design
  • General assistance to the Design Studio Director

Key Requirements:

  • Creative
  • Must be a sufficient, independent worker
  • Intermediate proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Professional office demeanor

Exhibitions Marketing Intern

Part-Time, 24 to 32 hours per week

Assists with the development and management of approximately 6 to 8 traveling exhibitions within our larger program of more than 40 exhibitions on the road or in development.  Working with a team of Registrars, Venue Coordinator and Director of Exhibitions to successfully book exhibition tours and develop exhibition content, public relations and education materials to accompany exhibitions.

Work includes:

  • develop marketing prospectus, website or email text for exhibitions

  • general letter or email writing promoting or following up on marketing of exhibitions

  • work with curator or other outside contributors to create exhibition wall text and/or catalogue text

  • find venues for traveling exhibitions through a variety of resources including a database of 1400 US Museum/150 Canadian museums

  • compile information on various artists, sites, or curators, etc

  • assemble reports on contacts that have been made for an exhibition

  • assemble prospectus packets to museums

  • other administrative tasks as requested by Director of Exhibitions
